In 2007 we tackled the old stable area, now grandly rebranded as 'The Chalet Garden', employing Madresfield Design Associates to transform it from a wasteland to the beginings of a new garden. The weather threw everything at them, from snow in February to clay-baking heat in May. The new plants then had to contend with the July monsoon.
Three 'Before' pictures - two looking north towards the chalet, away from the car park, and one from the chalet showing the octagonal greenhouse next to the car park.
The two below are after clearance, with the willows chopped down, and then with the new retaining timber 'wall' for the bank. The state of the ground shows why new drainage was needed.
Further on, the garden beds have been made and the pool excavation commenced.
A climbing frame for runner beans, sweet peas, &c frames the relocated greenhouse, and some new steps (which re-used the railway sleepers from the old vegetable beds) link to the car park garden.
Looking back towards the cottage, the car park is now a separate area, and the filled pond only awaits planting, and fish, and frogs, and newts, and other stuff.
